Thinking of taking an online OSHA Safety Class?
We get it – the temptation to take a class online. They are so cheap! But this is truly a case where “you get what you pay for.” Studies show that if you take a class online instead of in-person, you will learn a lot less information, and for what little information you do learn, you are more likely to forget it in the long term.
Maybe you are reading this because your boss told you to take an OSHA 10 or OSHA 30-hour class. You might as well spend those 10 or 30 hours in a classroom, where you will have a great learning experience and gain some knowledge you will actually remember: information that you can use to keep yourself safe at work. It is the same time commitment whether you take the class in person or online. So, why are in-person classes better?
- Classes
are MORE FUN. Classmates talk to each other, share stories, do group
activities, and truly interact. Interaction is how people learn – NOT staring
at a computer screen all day.
- No
End-of-class Test. In an in-person class, you do NOT need to pass a test at
the end of class. Just make sure you are there for the entire training, and you
WILL get your OSHA card. No test anxiety!
- Training is customized to you. In an in-person class, your instructor can make changes on the fly to adapt the class to your learning style, answering questions when necessary and going into more depth when he sees that people are confused.
Online training is just a video playing in the background – you will not have as much fun in class, AND you won’t remember as much of the information. Take your OSHA safety classes in-person in a classroom, and don’t take them online – it’s a waste of your time and a waste of your money.
